Anchoring a Trampoline to the Ground

Anchoring a Trampoline to the Ground

How To Secure a Trampoline In High Wind Areas.

Trampolines tend to fly away more these days than they ever used to. This is a result of having a bigger mat surface tension area, generally having padding secured over the springs so less wind able to escape through the springs and even more frequently having a net enclosure as well which is almost as good as a sail!

There are some different anchor kits available but they tend to be made of flimsy materials and really not designed to hold big trampolines in the high wind open plain areas across Australia.

Our suggestion below has been proven to work over a number of years with only 1 known escapee trampoline taking the suggested anchor system with it!

We suggest securing your trampoline to survive in most winds; to do the following.

1 metal/stake/dropper with cap and 1 strap - for Trampoline Wind Anchor Kit

Purchase some (5-7) 40-50cm metal star droppers / star pickets and safety caps from a hardware store. (5 each for 8,10 and 12ft trampolines – 7 for 14ft and 15ft trampolines) Also some trailer / motorbike ratchet straps to match the number of pickets you have.Clips to go in the holes of the droppers so the straps can be removed easily to mow. You may need to drill a hole in the dropper so check before putting into the ground.

`1 Metal Garden Stake And 1 Strap - You will need 4-7 of these pending the size of your trampoline (Purchase Quality Strapping like above)

Anchor Point For Trampoline Wind Protection

Once your trampoline is up hammer the droppers all the way into the ground all but 10-15cm under your trampoline on an angle as if you were securing a tent. (about 40-50cm in from the trampoline legs - under the trampoline so your straps won't trip the kids up as they run around)

Then take the straps and secure around the frame edge and secure to the picket with the clip. (first secure the strap to the clip) tighten with the ratchet - or buckle.

Put the Anchor Point in about 40cm in from the leg.

Round Trampoline Secure for Wind

The Straps are much safer under the trampoline than where the kids can trip over outside the trampoline.

Often people will secure the trampoline with railway sleepers and concrete over the trampoline legs this will hold the trampoline inmany cases but all too often the trampoline will breakaway from the legs and the rest will fly away still. By securing from the frame you are supporting itat the most stressed point.

Please note this will not hold in all winds or cyclones etc but will certainly hold in many of the high winds you are likely to encounter.

We also suggest that you regularly check the screws holding your trampoline frame and legs in place that they are all there and secure. This will also keep your trampoline strong and more likely to hold up to highwinds.

When known winds are coming ensure any objects that could fly into your trampoline and damage it are secure as well. Overhead tree branches also do a lot of damage to trampolines!

There are no guarantees of what can happen in high winds butwe have heard insurance companies are more likely to be obliging if you have attempted to secure your trampoline.
